How to buy used motorcycle parts on EBAY pt1

Either love them or hate them EBAY is here to help you find what you need for your motorcycle. Ebay has tons of used motorcycle parts.  If you need a  good used or new starter for your 78 cb750 custom.  they have it.  if your radiator has sprung a leak and you cant afford to buy new motorcycle part from the local dealer. Ebay has it.   but there are few things you should learn before you go throwing your hard earned cash down the drain.

The first and most important thing is to know your bike. The year of the motorcycle, the model of the motorcycle and any special modifiers like   2013 honda cbr 600 rr or  2012 kawasaki zx6r ( zx636).   The next thing is to know your part.  Know what it is called.  if you need a waterpump. know what a water pump for your bike looks like. Not just the microfiche version.  take your motorcycle waterpump off and look at it.  pay attention to the amount of hoses it has.  Is it painted or is it just aluminum.  what does the shaft look like.  If it is a electrical item, look for any numbers that are on the unit.   Some electrical parts have the motorcycle part number on the unit,  some just have manufacture part numbers on them.  Those part numbers can change for every unit so they can be unreliable.  The biggest thing to remember about electrical parts. they are usually non returnable .

Over the next couple of weeks I am going to be writing about specific things about buying items for your motorcycle from ebay. I am also going to be answering any questions from the comment section.  I have been buying motorcycle parts from ebay since 1998 and have bought 1000’s of parts.  Even with everything I know about motorcycles I have been ripped off from poor sellers on Ebay.   So if you have any question about buying used motorcycle parts from sellers on ebay.   ask away!

I have a 1983 Honda V45 Magna that I am trying to restore. There is no key. Does the ignition key unlock both the gas cap and the seat lock? iam1gr8dad@yahoo.com
