They call it Hard Candy! Harley-davidson has came out with a new line of custom paint and design packages. The new hard candy designs are made to help bring Harley into the 21st century and attract a younger demographic. With the baby boomers looking at retirement and maybe trading in the HOG for a RV. Harley needs to increase its appeal to a younger generation of buyers. Most of whom grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. So looking back most motorcycles back then had awesome custom paint job with tons of metal flake sparkling in the paint.
Some of the colors available from the hard candy store are Coloma Golden Flake and Lucky Green Flake or Big Red Flake. The special colors are made using tinted metal flakes. Each part is painted seven times. Each time a new layer of paint and flakes are applied. Then the part is clear coated multiple times to get that deep as the ocean look. Finally the parts are hand sanded and buffed out to make each painted motorcycle part unique. Then harely davidson add their special hard candy logo and graphics to the finished motorcycle. For that custom motorcycle look.
The new hard candy paint is available on select 2013 harley-davidson models this year. More models next year will be available to receive this special treatment. This year it will be available on the Street Bob or the Seventy-Two. You can also get it on the Softail Deluxe, blackline,or the Forty-Eight models. Being one of the generation X. Who grew up in the 70’s. I can remember drooling over the custom chopper motorcycles. They were a dream I had that when I grew up. I would have a motorcycle like my dad’s Harley-Davidson has helped to recreate that time and style of the choppers of out youth. I am glad to see some things never go out of style.
