Ducati monster celebrates 20 years!

ducati monster

1993 the birth of a monster. The ducati monster. A motorcycle that changed what a super bike is.The motorcycle was designed by Miguel Galluzzi for ducati.  It gave birth to the naked bike. A super bike with no fairings and a minimal design. Just a light, agile machine. Something to connect man and the street. The motorcycle is simplistic in design. Just a engine and a trellis frame. The monster uses the engine as part of the frame, keeping tht weight down and making the motorcycle stiffer. This allowed for better handling and a better feel of the road.  The first ducati monster was a 900cc machine. It used the standard 90 degree  v-twin L motors. The first model was the m900. It was soon followed the next year with the m600 monster and then in 1996 They released the M750.

The ducati monster was a huge hit. Half of all ducati’s sold by 2005 were monster’s.  Ducati has refined the motorcycle over the years. But has always stayed true to the design that put ducati back on the motorcycle manufacture map. The biggest change came in 2000. When ducati made the motorcycle with fuel injection. Then in 2001 they created the S4. This monster came with a water cooled. 4 valves per cylinder engine.  This upped the horsepower and reliability of the monster. With the stronger motor this caused them to need to update the suspension and braking on the motorcycle. So new semi floating brakes and new brembo four piston calipers were also added to the monster.

Very few models of motorcycles last 20 years. Most come and go like the changing of the seasons.  The ducati monster is one of those motorcycles that is timeless. Its design practically perfection.  The bike helps merge the rider with the road. Its minimal design screams to be driven.  Its one purpose is to give you the best ride of your life. No frills No extras, just you and the road the best motorcycle ever built.
