2013 yamaha R1. The ONE! Yamaha production super bike. There is only ONE! So the new R1 has dropped and it was as expected a holdover from the new 2012 model r1. Of course that is nothing to complain about. The R1 is still one of the fastest meanest sickest production super bikes on the planet. The only new bits for 13 is 3 new color layouts. First you can get the trusty(we seen it before) Matte Grey or the Rapid Red. Lastly we have the Team Yamaha Blue and white, my personal favorite. The motorcycle sells for a little over $14000 but you should shop around as it can be found for $13000.
One of the most interesting feature on the 2012/13 yamaha r1 is the new crossplane crankshaft. This new crank shaft came from the race winning Motogp bikes. The idea behind this design is change where the crank pins are located at on the crank. Normally they are 180 degrees apart. Two pistons up and two pistons down. With the cross plane crank the crank pins are 90 degrees apart. This is done to even out the energy flow. This way the energy is pulsed every 90 degrees. Which makes for a smoother more linear power delivery. Which makes the new 2013 R1 faster than anyone else.
Another awesome carry over is the new 7 level traction control system. The new ECU based system takes inputs from sensors monitoring the acceleration of the motorcycle and the current speed and throttle position and other factors to adjust the power delivery to the rear wheel. this will greatly improve your chances of not going over in a wheelie the first time you rip open the throttle. The new traction system allows the rider to select up to 21 different configuration of the system. Depending on how you plan on riding.
The 2013 R1 is still the one motorcycle to own. If you want to have the fastest and most advanced sport bike on the planet. Yamaha has always been a leader in the sport bike market and a leader on the race track. The new r1 is born on the race track but is meant to be winning out on the streets.
